Gurgaon: Two men raped and murdered a 12-year-old girl whose body was found next to the railway tracks in Faridabad on Thursday night, police have said, scanning hundreds of clips recorded in CCTV cameras installed at a steel factory nearby.
The autopsy report of the girl also confirmed that she died due to asphyxiation as the accused held her mouth with brute force to stop her from screaming.
The police said they had questioned around 50 men living in the nearby areas in connection with the rape and murder. Till Saturday evening, the cops were yet to trace the accused or identify them.
“We took images of the men seen in the CCTV footage and asked the girl’s sister to identify them. There has been no leads yet,” said a police officer.
Referring to the CCTV clips, the officer said a man who had gone to relieve himself in the bushes could not sense anything amiss as the girl was being assaulted.
Around 9pm on Thursday, the minor girl had gone to relieve herself behind the bushes as the community toilet was closed.
She was accompanied by her elder sister and another girl, who were waiting for her. When she didn’t come for half an hour, they started looking for her.
At the time of the rape and murder, a goods train had stopped on the tracks, blocking the view of the girl’s elder sister and her friend, the police said. “We are trying to track down the accused. We have scanned CCTV footage and are questioning people. We will nab them soon,” the officer said.
