KOLKATA: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation will send a team of engineers to oversee the ongoing infrastructure projects across 25 wards in Behala, Garden Reach and Metiabruz, known as added areas.
Mayor Firhad Hakim on Wednesday took the decision at a review meeting at the civic headquarters. The meeting was attended by councillors and senior officials of the KMC essential services department.
The meeting was convened to take stock of the progress of several major infrastructure projects that include sewerage and drainage upgrade, water supply augmentation and maintenance of roads. Hakim also wanted to know if the councillors are facing funds shortage in their respective wards.
According to Borough XVI chairman Sudip Polley, the drainage pumping station at Joka, once completed, will resolve the waterlogging woes in Joka and adjoining Behala neighbourhoods. Residents of Joka, Behala Chowrasta, Sakherbazar, Raja Rammohan Roy Road, Haridevpur among other areas will benefit from the project.
The drainage pumping station was designed by the Kolkata Environment and Infrastructure Improvement Project funded by the Asian Development Bank.
