Lanka's 'friends' didn't help during crisis, India did: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

NEW DELHI: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday hailed the Modi government for helping crisis-ridden Sri Lanka, as he likened the move to India’s old philosophy of “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” saying that India walks what it talks.
“Everyone talks about the world market, only India talks about the world as a family. This is our philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” Bhagwat said and added, “Several countries who considered themselves as friends of Sri Lanka did not come forward when it was in crisis but India extended full throttle support to the neighbouring country. India’s bid to rescue Sri Lanka from the debt crisis was an example of the fact that we walk the talk.”
The RSS chief was addressing a series of lectures organised by Sankalp Foundation and former Civil Services Officers’ Manch at Ambedkar International Centre.
“Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ (May everyone be happy) is the belief we have inherited from our ancestors. India’s gesture towards Sri Lanka was its living example,” Bhagwat said.
In pursuance of its “Neighbourhood First policy”, India had extended this year itself unprecedented support of over $3.8 billion for ameliorating the serious economic situation in Sri Lanka in July this year. The island nation reeled under severe shortages of food, fuel and medicines after its economic crisis deteriorated.
“Diversity has been part of our ethos since ancient times. Our land is such that it gives it to everyone. That is why it is called Bharat Mata. We are not the owners of this land, we are its sons. We all are one family,” the RSS chief Bhagwat said.
“Our ancestors have made sacrifices and fought for the protection of culture and identity. We should not abandon our identity,” the RSS chief said.
Presiding over the first session of the lecture series, former principal secretary to the Prime Minister and chairman of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir Nirman Samiti Nripendra Mishra said the Sangh has been an inspiration for many, who are contributing to making the nation stronger.
Bhagwat also released the English version of the book , ‘Indian Perspective’, compiled by Sankalp. In this book, the lectures of the speakers who had attended the lecture series organized in the previous years were compiled, in which 12 prominent speakers including Krishna Gopal, Murli Manohar Joshi, home minister Amit Shah, Sushma Swaraj and Anil Madhav Dave.
