Odisha had never seen such a high national presence since 1947: Amit Shah

BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday said the “achhe din” of Odisha has come with the state’s unprecedented representation at the national level.
Speaking at an event to mark the 75th anniversary of Odia daily Prajatantra, founded by freedom fighter and Odisha’s first chief minister Harekrushna Mahtab in Cuttack, Shah said Odias are occupying the top posts in the country like never before.
“From President Droupadi Murmu, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das and minister of state for tribal affairs Bishweshwar Tudu, Odisha had never seen such a high representation at the national level since independence,” Shah said.
Congratulating the people of Odisha, Shah said Droupadi Murmu who was born in a poor tribal family in the state is now the “Mahamahim Rashtrapati.” It’s a matter of pride for every Odia and every tribal across the country, he added.
Stating that Odisha has a huge potential for development, the home minister said the state’s rich cultural heritage, industrious and skilled manpower and abundance of natural resources will propel it further.
Sharing the dais with Shah, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said the role of media in a democratic society cannot be emphasised enough. “It should endeavour to uphold our great cultural heritage and moral values and promote national integration and communal harmony. Media should discharge its duty without any fear or favour,” he added. Naveen further said the media runs on the basis of people’s trust. It is, therefore, expected that the media should prioritise the real issues of the people rather than politics. Media should essentially be the voice of the people.
“Being the voice of the people, the media must reflect our democratic value system and take a neutral stand in every aspect of society. Whether it is print or electronic or social media, it is the duty of every media house to maintain dignity and keep the secular principles in mind,” Naveen said.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan presided over the event.
