Seven schools, 46 students celebrate IDay in a unique way

Feelings of patriotism ran high as Mumbai students participated in a unique event to celebrate India@75. Around 46 students from seven schools including Sir J J Fort Boys’ and Girls’ High School, Bai Kabibai English School and Junior College, Fort Convent School, Holy Name High School, Our Lady Of Dolours High School, Young Ladies High School and St. Xavier’s High School were a part of the flash mob at South Mumbai (CSMT Railway Station and the NCPA at Nariman Point) in the afternoon, today.

While patriotic songs like ‘India Waale’ from ‘Happy Near Year’, ‘Jai Ho’ from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walo’ and ‘Aayo Re Shubh Din Aayo’ played on, the Flash Mob of teenaged school kids performed to create awareness about important issues and also showcased the distinct cultures of India on Independence Day.

The students were all charged up and brimming with enthusiasm as they spoke to us about bringing about a change in the society, appreciating our police force, and the sheer power of unity that they all recognised after working as a dedicated team for the India@75 event on August 15.

Shraddha Upadhyay from Bai Kabibai English School & Junior College said, “”We need to be the change if we want to bring about the change. We are the youth of this country and the change will begin from us.”

Another student Praneeth Salian from Our Lady Of Dolours High School, was all praise for the police officers in the city and said, “Everyday the police see the darkest aspects of our world. I feel that it’s not an easy job. Let’s appreciate our Police officers.”

Aarya Talegaonkar from Sir JJ Fort Girls’ School spoke about the importance of teamwork. “’Teamwork shows how united we are. Working for the posters and paintings in the last one week helped me become a better leader. This initiative is special because it got us close to real life problems we need to be aware of.”

Alice Machado, a Std IX student, from Fort Convent Girls’ School added, “United we stand divided we fall. In these few weeks everyone worked in a united way so that programme goes well. And it worked!”

Talking about what inspired these teenage students to organise such an event Alice said, “Our teacher Gopi Gupta inspired us to take initiative on all the issues at National Level. We brainstormed the idea of a Flash Mob and other students joined together to form different teams to work on this concept. Through our Flash Mob we wanted to highlight the concept of unity in diversity. We students have prepared a lot and worked really very hard to do something unique.”

At the event, the students also prepared handmade greeting cards and rakhi to show their gratitude towards the police officials. They painted posters to create awareness about environmental conservation, the very real life-threatening problem of global warming, respecting the National flag and other issues.
